Patient and public involvement

As a clinical organization, The Association for Safe Aseptic Practice is committed to protecting and reassuring patients. Therefore, we are currently busy forging partnerships with Patient Groups and Associations.

Patients are most vulnerable to infection when undergoing invasive clinical procedures, whether they be complex operations or more simply procedures such as cannulation, intravenous therapy or wound care. The Department Health UK recognized the importance of safe aseptic practice in 2003 with the launch of ‘Winning Ways’. The Care Quality Commission have checked for the presence of a standard aseptic technique in health care organizations since. Regards aseptic technique, health care organizations can reassure patients of their commitment to protecting them from health care associated infection in one of two ways:

  1. 1. Practice the ANTT Standard.

  1. 2. Demonstrate an alternative organization-wide standard aseptic technique, based on an explicit

    aseptic practice framework.
